'Impressionist' Moscow

“Impressionist” Moscow

The core attraction of this tour is the Gallery of 19th and 20th Century European and American Art. While the French were discussing if ‘impressionism’ was a proper art the Russians were buying the best works of Monet, Degas, Cezanne, Renoir, Gauguin and other great new names of the art world. Thanks to the artistic taste and vision of our art-collectors we can now enjoy one of the best collections of the impressionists in the world.

Hotel Pick Up

Your guide will meet you in the lobby area of your hotel, Leningradsky Railway Station if you travel from Saint-Petersburg by ‘Sapsan’ train or any other indicated address to begin the tour from there. In case you combine this tour with Half-Day City Tour your guide will take you to  lunch somewhere close to the Gallery of European and American Art so that to continue our tour there.

Gallery of 19th and 20th Century European and American Art

The Gallery, a new section of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, opened its doors to the public in August 2006. The setting up of the Gallery was the next step in the development of the Museum. The pride of the Gallery consists of the paintings by French Impressionists and Post-Impressionists and masters of the early 20th century: Claude Monet, August Renoir, Alfred Sisley, Camille Pissarro, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Andre Derain.

Moscow Metropolitan

Moscow Metropolitan is as much underground art gallery and piece of art as transport network. Opened in 1935 with its marble walls, high ceilings, stained glass, mosaics and chandeliers it was an embodiment of the idea that palaces should belong to people. Nowadays it also serves as a sort of museum of Russian history. The Moscow metro is one of the most extensive and heavily traveled subway systems in the world, transporting about 9 million people around the city each day.

Old Arbat Street

Old Arbat Street is a pedestrian street in the historical centre of Moscow. In the 15th century the street formed part of an important trade-route and was home to a large number of craftsmen. In the 18th century the Russian nobility came to regard the Arbat as the most prestigious living area in Moscow. In the Soviet period, it housed many high-ranking government officials. Because of the many historic buildings, and due to the numerous artists who have lived and worked in the street, the Arbat has also become an important tourist attraction.
